About Sangam Laxmibai, Founder Secretary, SLV

Sangam Laxmibai (1911 - 1979) was born in Korremula Village, Ghatkesar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District.

Her valiant contribution to the political struggle against Razakars and before Police Action of September 1948 cannot be forgotten by the people of Hyderabad. She was elected to the Hyderabad State Legislative Assembly in 1st General Elections in 1952. She was the Deputy Minister for Education in the Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Ministry upto 31st October 1956, when Andhra Pradesh was formed. She served as a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education for three years. In Parliament, she was active and took initiative on various issues such as education of women, small scale industries and rural health.

Sangam Laxmibai, a child widow, was a dedicated social worker. She was inspired by and associated with great social worker like Durgabai Deshmukh. She was the founder-secretary of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet, which aims at empowering girls and women through education, particularly technical education. She was a principled, kind, obliging and affectionate person.
