About Mamidi Bhoj Reddy, Founder Treasurer, SLV

Mamidi Bhoj Reddy (1919 – 2001) was born into an agricultural family in Shamshabad Village, on the outskirts of Hyderabad City. He studied at Osmania University. Though trained to be a lawyer, he never practiced law. He participated in the Hyderabad Liberation Movement. He served as Chairman, Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad for three consecutive terms from 1962 to 1976, the longest tenure as ZP chairman in the then Andhra Pradesh. He was known for his distinguished work, integrity and commitment for local government. He quit politics soon after the imposition of emergency in 1975.

Bhoj Reddy was a passionate supporter of public library movement and was Chairman of Hyderabad Granthalaya Samstha and an office-bearer of Andhra Pradesh Granthalaya Samstha for several decades. He played a key role in establishment of hundreds of public libraries throughout Andhra Pradesh. He was also actively associated with the Co-operative Banks Association and AP State Co-operative Union for ten years. He was a firm believer in the empowerment of women and girls through education. He was the founder-treasurer of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet.
