About K V Ranga Reddy, Founder President

Konda Venkat Ranga Reddy (1890 - 1970) was born into an agricultural family in Peddamangalaram Village, Moinabad Mandal, Ranga Reddy District. He studied law and practiced in High Court of Hyderabad. He also taught law. He was a freedom fighter and participated in the Hyderabad Liberation Movement. He served as President of Hyderabad Andhra Mahila Sabha in 1948. He was one of the founder-members of the Hyderabad State Congress. He worked as a Cabinet Minister in the states of Hyderabad and as Deputy Chief Minister after the formation of Andhra Pradesh. In recognition of his public service, the then Government of Andhra Pradesh named his native Hyderabad Rural District as Ranga Reddy District.

He was a founder-member of Andhra Vidyalaya Education Society which established first Telugu Medium High School in the Nizam’s Dominion of Hyderabad. This is the one of the oldest educational societies in the twin cities.

Ranga Reddy was a firm believer in the empowerment of women and girls through education. He was the founder president of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet, an educational society exclusively devoted to education of girls and women.
